Viana do Castelo Municipal Library
The Viana do Castelo Municipal Library (2004-2008), built on the Lima river front, was designed by Álvaro Siza and integrates the plan designed by Fernando Távora for the city’s waterfront. It is a two storey square shaped building, formed by an elevated volume including a void, prolonged eastward on the first floor by a L shaped volume. The library offices, the events area and the bar are on the first floor and the reading rooms are on the second floor.
This project was awarded the National Contemporary Architecture Award.
