The story of Tubo Pro begins more than two decades ago, with a simple but intentional gesture rooted in architecture. In the early 2000s, architect Eduardo Souto de Moura designed a transparent polycarbonate tube to protect a fluorescent lamps. The goal was to ensure safety — shielding users from the risks of gas leakage — while preserving the purity and simplicity of the exposed lamp and its soft, diffused light. This was the beginning of the Tubo luminaire: an essential, understated object designed to quietly serve the space. 

As lighting technology evolved, so did Tubo. With the transition from fluorescent to LED, new challenges — and opportunities — emerged. The original clear tube gave way to an opal version, designed to conceal the LED board and the pinpoint light sources, while maintaining a smooth, continuous glow. The concept remained the same: minimalist form in service of clean, functional light. 

In recent years, a recurring request reached us: Could we create a version of Tubo with controlled glare? A solution that retained the iconic simplicity of the original, but complied with the technical demands of workplaces and learning environments? 

The answer took time. After several iterations and experiments, Tubo Pro was born — a luminaire that honors the spirit of the original Tubo, now powered by a high-performance optical engine capable of achieving UGR<16 or UGR<19, depending on the version (LO/HO). This level of glare control makes Tubo Pro suitable for office lighting, complying with WELL certification requirements, which promote health, comfort, and productivity in buildings designed around people.
